having worked on this show for over a year, it was nice to see despite all the politics that went behind the show. Sorry, no Vray was used, but I figure you may want to see it...

    looks really great, man!....

so give us some insight: what part did you work on, and some tech specs....what did you use in its production?

can't wait to see it on the 28th....the story doesn't look like much but the CG looks really good.....and that's worth the ticket

I did mostly modeling. The hero elements that I worked on was the hollywood sign, liberty island, capital records building. Also new your city is VERY detailed... too detailed if you ask me... but we had a large team of modelers working on cleaning up the lidar models to get ready for texture and lighting... I also worked on a "generic city block" set up... that was actually fun. Making a system where we could do 200 + blocks of the city and not try to see a duplicate building or block.

software wise, I would say the big hero in my book was voxelB (which is really called voxelbitch)... it is DD proprietary software which does amazing things... it was used for all the twisters, the mist on the water, the white water wash, even the rain. The same software was used on the avalanche for" xXx." It was also used a long time ago for the raging river scene in "Fellowship of the Ring"

if you don't mind me asking......what's your production pipeline like?? did you model your work in max/maya/XSI??...is that voxelB a standalone porg or a plug for some other 3d package??....

thanks for the insight, man......is neat to find out about the "behind the scenes' stuff....

Hey cpnichols, pretty amazing Stuff you and your Team did here.

Let me ask you about the City you Guys build. I always liked the Idea of a highly detailed CGCity. Actually i always wanted to build one, maybe this wish will be fulfilled soon. Well anyway, i'm interested how you organized your work in the City? Are there Modellers for Suff like Signs and Details, some for the hero buildings and some for these tilable Blocks?. Or were there enough modellers to build every Building in HighRes. Would be cool to see some wireframes. I know this can be tricky in the CinemaCG world. Another Question, do you have a Scene with the full City in it? How many Poly's you get then? Probably it would be a Challenge for Vray without the new raycaster eh?

Voxelbitch sounds very cool too... i wonder if other things than Fire are possible with Aura...

Ok, i say Thanks in advance and congrats to your gorgeous looking Scenes!

Don't know how much pipeline stuff I can talk about but for the msot part it was a Houdini and Maya 3D pipe. VoxelB is not really a plugin, but for the most part, it works via Houdini. As for the actual work that was done and stuff like that... you may have to wait until the official publications come out... maybe some Siggraph papers.... for now, I'm concentrating on robots.... lots and lots and lots and lots of Robots.
