max 2014 shit to constrain angle when drawing spline

I'm having problems when holding shift and drawing a spline. It used to snap to 90 degs but now it snaps in strange ways. Have I changed something without realizing it or is this another Autodesk "feature" ?

it works as it did before here, don't know if there's anything new to tick to make it behave differently though.

Make sure you didn't activate a grid helper. That can cause that issue.
