Super cool... I wonder how long it took to put this together.

Dunno, but its quite mind bending isn't it? I'm not entirely sure what's going on. Maybe its magic?

No magic of course, all is predetermined/prerendered (it's why you need robots to move the screens and the camera). It wouldn't work in stereo, or if you were looking from another view point, unless perhaps, if you are sufficiently far away... But still, impressive

Ya, it's a shame you could never really watch this live in person. Otherwise you're likely to get that scene from the latest mission impossible film

This was my first thought too... 2 technocranes? who paid for this, and how?

make that 3 technocranes.. one for the camera i assume... and it looks to me like those are actually full-on industrial robots..

I wonder if part of the show is to show their tracking technology - no ?

No tracking involved, technocranes take animation input from .fbx files. They're incredibly easy to work with (given some back & forth/making sure you're not giving it a movement it cant do), albiet horrifically expensive to rent.

I doubt this was all that difficult to produce - it's just playing into the strengths of a setup most people would never get near.

i saw a comment somewhere else about this, there is no real reason (apart from the stuff projected on the floor) they couldnt have used lcd screens instead of camera mapped projection. obviously wanging around 60 inch tvs on a robot arm instead of a piece of foamboard might be an issue.. and also, i guess viewing angles might have been a problem. hmm. maybe projection was the way to go

and they are definitely industrial robots, not technocranes.. likely even more eye-wateringly expensive to get hold of.. heck even moving one would be a nightmare.

so i actually decided to check the website.

the film is promoting the abilities of the robots..

                              they are these robots:

                              http://www.botndolly.com/robots

1.4 tons each.. can swing around 300kg.

                              badass.

strangely no prices i can see though.
