  • Max upgrade question

To upgrade or not to upgrade......that is the question. I'm currently working with Max 2010 and now I am looking to upgrade to 2014. The reason I have not upgraded from 2010 is because I have heard from many users that Backburner has been an absolute nightmare for every release after 2010. I'm not exactly sure why AutoDesk can't there act together with regards to this considering backburner is a very important component of the software. I was wondering if any of the current 2014 users have had the same issues and if so, how did you remedy the problem?

    Thanks,

    Scott

I've not had a single issue with backburner. Ever. I know that backburner can have issues depending on the mix of OSes used, especially with the manager.

2014 is a solid release and would highly recommend it to anyone. The viewport performance alone is HUGE!

Thanks Troy.....that's one of the reasons why I was curious about 2014. I heard a lot of good things about the view port speed. I guess the OS can be one factor with regards to BB issues.....what OS are you running and are you running the BB that comes with the software or are you running BB 2008?

you can disable ipv6 or even install backburner 2008 (or a different render manager...) BB shouldnt be the thing that stops you upgrading. out of the box it can have issues, but there are so many ways around it and guides how to fix it there's no issue.

Cubicle makes a good point. I have disabled ipv6 on all the servers / rendernodes / workstations. It's been that way for a few years now. I haven't needed to touch it.

We are running the version that comes with the version of max we are using. So all the flavors of BB every year when we upgrade. Currently we are on BB 2014 and Max 2014 64 bit.

File server / Frames server are running Windows Server 2008 x64
Rendernodes / workstation are running Windows 7 Pro x64.

I do know that XP and Windows 7 don't always play nice together. Should work most of the time, but can be potentially flakey. YMMV!
Usually the XP workstations are so old that they are just simple CAD machines or interns work on them. They are rarely ever involved in rendering at that point.
