  • Animated Bow

    Hi there,

Christmas is coming, time for animated gifts and bows as every year....
just wondering if there's a nicer way to animate a ribbon wich build a bow. the last few years i always used a plane and animated it along a spline over path-deform.
    never realy satisfy'd me though.
anyone knows the greatest method maybe? isn't much time cause no money for it as always, so complex cloth setups won't be the best i guess.
this is more or less how the endframe has to be.

could something like this be done with marvelous designer? I know you can import animated objects - maybe if you can pin the end of the ribbon to a couple of objects that move you can tie the bow properly. Would require a bit of back & forth creating the right kind of animation but so long as you can pin fabric to an animated avatar it should work fine.

(idk if this is possible - I dont have a copy here yet to test. I feel like you should be able to do this though...)

Your thread reminded me of a similar project we did a while back: http://www.hatchstudios.net/projects/ribbons-2/

I think we cheated it in two parts: one along a spline and the built bow popping into existence.

@ richard, sort of this is the way we did the last few years too. but thought there must be a nice way around the spline animation. once you're touching the spline after you've found a nice end postion changing it all again...

@cubiclegangster, thanks for your advice. never touched marvelous designer though. can't hurt to take a look at it, but better with more time for it.
