  • How to create a terrazzo material?

Any ideas how to create a terrazzo material, something like this:-

Name:	terrazzo.jpg
Views:	1
Size:	275.7 KB
ID:	879157

Its going to be covering a large area so tiling needs to be none existent. In the back of my mind, I feel it should be possible using procedural materials, but I'm not really sure where to start.

Any help would be very much appreciated - obviously client wants this yesterday which isn't helping my 'testing' time.
    Kind Regards,

create a square tileable map, then make a copy of it, rotate it and maybe offset it. Use a mixmap with the two maps in either slot, making sure that they have different tiling sizes. then use a noise bitmap in the mix amount slot, making it fractal and setting the high threshold to something like 0.52 and the low threshold to something like 0.48. have found that this usually works if you have a decent map

Did something similar recently. Used the scan from manufacturer site.

In diffuse stick a mixmap and use noise as the mask. Then for texture 1 and also for texture 2 stick in a bercon tile and set it to auto-rotate the map. Make the 2 bercon tiles slightly different sizes

Yeah I used a bercon tile with custom settings with random offsets and sizes, then in the tile slot I put a radial gradient ramp with noise to create a more angular shape within the tile. Granted it was for carpet but the principal should still apply.

Have you tried http://www.vray-materials.de? ...there is a Beige Terrazzo. Maybe you can use that one directly or as a base for creating a new.

Wow cool there is also a red procedural version:

Will have to test it out however and see. A lot of the materials on there are not exactly "optimal". That being said I got a nice leather material from there a while back

I did try that red one but it looked bloody awful in my render (obviously I changed the colours, but it just didn't look like my sample at all). Need to do some further testing.
