    Hi All,
    I thought I might be able to ask a few of you Architectural Visualization experts to comment on your modeling techniques when you're constructing the elevation of a building. I've started rebuilding some castle ruins for an environment I'm working on and it's taken me a almost day just to get this far ...


    I really don't like Booleans so I've been patch modeling with splines and the surface modifier with all the steps set to "0" so I can get a nice clean mesh. Are there any tips for speedy modeling of buildings anyone can pass on?

    Well, you can model with splines extruded in front view.
    Another tecnic would be taking the spline elevations and making a Shap merge with a plane or a patch, so you can have a regular mesh that you can modify it later.

      A day is too long for what you have there...
      Which parts are you finding most time consuming?

      The technique I use often depends on what the building looks like and how the plans are supplied.

      For example, in your building, the solid interior walls would start out as one spline. I would then use Outline to give that line thickness and then Extrude up. That should take about 2 mins.

      Perhaps if we could see the reference drawings for the completed building it might help.

        Hi guys, I got into a few other things and forgot about this thread somehow. Thanks for the tips. THe part that was taking the most time wasn't the extruded walls but the four walls I spline modeled. The problem I was having is that this building is an old castle so there are many inconsistancies that I had to create. I've finished modeling and am almost done with the materials so I'll post some shots soon. I'll have to try your suggestion next time twinxel.
