  • Pixplant or Shadermap

I have been considering one of these for awhile...
For the money, Shadermap looks like a clear winner, at first glance.
Anyone owning any of these care to comment on pros or cons, please?

Alternately, does anyone use and love the free Mapzone? (trying out today)

    Links
    Pixplant
    Shadermap
    Mapzone
    Bitmap2Material 2

    Thanks in advance!

Have you looked at NDO2? Pretty amazing. They have a range of different pricing. Look at the top of the pricing page.

It's crazy how many of these programs there are:

I used to use Crazybump, http://www.crazybump.com/ - but I think it's died as there hasn't been any updates for over a year

Since then I had been beta testing Knald, https://www.knaldtech.com/ - and they recently started selling their product. I think it'll be my replacement to Crazybump

      Although Bitmap2Material looks nice..

Knald was doing what Crazybump did but a bit better, I thought. Simple interface and you can then batch export those different passes. The only thing, whether good or bad - is that Knald only lets you export to lossless formats, exr, tif, png - no jpg. Which I guess is for the better. Not sure what they'll change/update going forward.

I use PixPlant 2, which is Crazy Bump, and it works good. I haven't looked at anything else.

photoshop and the nvidia normal map tools. With liberal use of hue/saturation & a good mix between the softer & more detailed options for normal maps I dont think anything else comes close. It's not the fastest, but is the most powerful.

interesting reply...I actually do try to use that, but never am sure what the hell I'm doing, so was interested in one of those auto-generator things out there...
Anyway, thanks for the tip, perhaps I don't completely need one of them...
Guess I'm going to spend a bit more time learning about making proper maps in PS, too.

Getting a good b/w map is key. Using hue/saturation to increase the saturation of (for example) the reds, then another on top to take the red and increase the lightness to make it white you can isolate colors for displacement maps really well. the highpass filter is very useful too.

I use pixplant often, it usually works well enough for what I need. The developer sent me a survey about features for the next version a short time ago so i expect it will have a new point release soon.
