  • UVW 3dsmax - bitmap ratio

Hi, I'm wondering why there is no way in 3dsmax to lock to the bitmap proportions of the UVWmap modifier, for example.
I feel I actually spend a lot of unnecessary time making sure my bitmaps are all maintaining the correct aspect ratio.

I know sometimes you don't want this, so I'm looking for a script, or anything really, to add the option of a proportion locking feature. (like a box or button in many other apps, or even in the max native common parameters tab--->output size.

Seems like a big oversight to me by Autodesk, considering all of the other capabilities of 3dsmax...

Is this a clear enough inquiry?
Anyone have anything to help this?

    Thanks in advance

Yeah the way I end up having to do it is instead of relying on real world sizes in the bitmap is to in your UVW editor use the bitmap fit feature then scale it from there.

Thanks Pixelcon, I will try it out and see if it is a time saver, still looking for a full fix though

      One more clarification...
For example, I have a non-uniform box that I want to add a simple BOX type UVW mod. I wish I could do that, and then have a radio button or check, that says "lock XYZ ratio" so when I change one value, the others change to match.
It would let me have more control, more efficiently, when using the standard uvw map, for example. Simple, don't need to enrter uvw editor, don't need to screw with each mapping size (or tiling) individually. I just hate it when I am using a rectangular bitmap and I have to hold max's hand to not distort the bitmap's aspect ratio. Am I thinking this out very incorrectly? Not that good with UVW unwrapping yet

I've wanted the aspect-locking feature for many years, but I always just get into the UVW map's sub-object mode and scale it.

Thanks Geoff, also a good idea I am going to try out, as well!
