Win 8.1 Thumbnail Previews and Details/Preview Pane

Been scouring the web for this and no real luck.
I'd like to enlarge the thumbnails on the right side of the Details Pane in Explorer but can't figure out a way around this.
Has anyone been able to do this?

Hold in "ctrl" on the keyboard and roll your wheel on the mouse.
(That also works for increasing "zoom" on webpages by the way)

If you mean the preview pane (if you have 3 columns in explorer), mine does it by just dragging the division between the 2 panes on the right

If I recall, this wasn't an issue on Windows 7 but I've gone up to 8.

I'm on a 30" monitor at max resolution.
I've turned off the left Navigation pane as I find that unnecessary real estate.
Ctrl+Wheel doesn't do anything for zooming the right Details/Preview pane thumbnail images on Windows 8.1.
Dragging the division which I've tried numerous times also does nothing.

I think the people at MS definitely designed the right pane with average monitors in mind and speed, but didn't consider users running at very high resolutions.
Adjusting folders to scale is just poorly thought out on their part.
