I see a lot of amazing global illumination and environment lighting/reflecting in game engines these days. Is that stuff still just scanline, or is ray-tracing involved -or is it other techniques that I'm clueless about?

Yeah Snow Drop and Naught Dog's stuff is just mindblowing these days. I think naughty dog's GI is faked but would love to know how Snowdrop achieves such stunning visuals in reatime.
