  • Modelling terrain with spot heights rather than contours

Ive been given a landscape plan, but there are no contours only few spot heights dotted around.
Anyone have any tips as to how best model the terrain in this situation?

I experimented with drawing my own contours in to follow the points but doesnt really work.

I think that recent plugin SplineLand might work with heights? Not sure. Interested to hear if there are other solutions for this.

have had the same kinda thing before. have drawn lines betwen the logical points, set all the points to bezier or smooth once it's completed and then done a surface modifier on all of the combined shapes - guess could just drag the points of a plane or similar around too. It worked fine, but it can be time consuming if it is a large area with a lot of points.

Meshlab could work if there are enough points, it's a bit tricky to work with, but gave me some very nice results on point cloud data so far.

Never heard of this, but yeah there is a video on their site using Splineland for exactly this. Essentially drawing a small line for each point and placing at the right height.

I think Populate:Terrain should also work using this method

Populate: Terrain worked ok. Ive only done a part of it, but used manually placed little circles at the right heights. Bit of relax on top. Still... so long winded.

Do you have access to Autocad?

              You could try this plugin:

I used something ages ago that worked with points. I think it was called a TIN plan, or something. I have the CD in a drawer, in the office, so I can look tomorrow.
