  • Using xrefs within 3dsmax seem to slow everything down

I don't normally use xrefs but have started to for a project because the individual items that are in the main scene need to be updated quite often at the moment. At the moment anything I do, render and then stop half way, takes ages, hiding and un-hiding takes ages...Using xrefs just seems to slow everything down to a frustrating speed. I may have to turn to vray proxies if I cannot get some speed ups.

Steve are you using max 2014?
I have found that if I render from a "shaded" mode the viewport takes a very long time to refresh after a render is cancelled.
I am now in the habit of switching to wireframe before rendering.
The same slowdown happens when you send renders through backburner.
