3dsmax booleans

I know 3dsmax has problems with booleans. I'm currently trying to animate a cut through of a housing so that you can see inside. I keep getting errors when using proboolean or boolean. The shape either completely disappears or an error is thrown seeing illegal boolean.

Are there any other solutions to this ? Any 3rd party plugins that aren't too expensive ?

what about the vray clipper in version 3 ?

I'm using 2.4 still. I decided to cut the object into smaller sections and boolean that instead. Seems to be working well.. I'll check out clipper in vray 3 once I'm confident vray 3 is more stable.

try doing an stl check on your operands before you use boolean. and try making the objects meshes instead of polys and make all of the edges visible before you perform the operation

Slice modifier & Cap holes also often works well if you are just slicing through something.

I generally use the slice and cap holes on a lot of stuff, just got VR3.0 though so going to test the clipper on a new project Im working on
