  • Lele's Vray Tools: Worth updating?

    Hellow fellow Vray users.
I was trawling through my old stuff, and found some of the (horrible) code for the scripts that some of you used in version 1.5.

While rewriting some or all of the scripts would prove fairly trivial, i am more concerned about which ones people used and would like to see updated.
It would also be quite helpful to get some feedback on things like preferred running method (rmc panels, toolbar, whatnot), and other little nagging usability things you found over the time you had the chance to use them.

One thing that comes to mind is, for instance, the Matrix Exposimeter: while i have some rewritten code for its routines which would do odd stuff like Z-weighting of samples and so on, i am left wondering as to its real production benefits, given these days almost everything is realtime, or thereabout.

Other ones, like the autofocus or the LC calculator are still quite valid (i know i use both a lot), and i'd include them in the pack anyway.

There's also another script born out of the beta of v3 which will be included as a surprise tool, one able to wreck havoc in your scenes like nothing else you've ever witnessed before!

So, please, if anyone has ideas, suggestions, comments, slander or flames to offer, hit me!

    Hi Lele

I jumped on your lwf tuts way back when released I think in 2006 it was with those excellent videos you did. I used your exposure tool a lot, but I've gotton so use to the values by now that I'm manually entering it. Once in a bluemoon I would refer to online EV values. I've actualy forgotton about your tools until you mentioned it now again and now I'm intrigued all over again
Would love to see some newer versions of anything you have to offer. You can never have enough scripts.

For the moment I think I would be more interested on your take on the latest tuts floating around that makes heavy use of DMC and the sample rate. Also I'd be interested in learning more about your techniques I saw somewhere you got frame times down to 20 min for a particular animation at one place where you did some r&d. Although the basic principal I'm sure is the same, perhaps an update on your original LWF tuts for VRay 3?

Also I would love to see you post some inspirational stuff in "Image Uploads"

Thank you very much for your original tuts and scripts. Your generous contribution to the community helped put me on the right track

Oh boy! I spent weeks setting all my assets output to .255. I still run across things that render really dark, just to realize it is one of those old models that I changed the output on.

I used your anything to vray camera script, which is awesome.

Umh, considering how many downloads they got over the years, i'd have expected more than 4 people to reply (and of course, thanks ever so much for both the encouragement and the requests!).
I'll prep whatever suits me, then, and you guys requested, and see where it goes from there.
As for the shading tutorial, we'll see.
It'd be definitely a good time to expand and clarify a few concepts to get rid of all the arbitrary values i used back then, and make it a coherent framework.
It's also a wee bit of work to prepare, so i'll make no promises.

I love your scripts Lele. The Light monkey and camera converter in particular are pretty awesome. Keep up the great work, and thanks for sharing
