  • Best online marketplace to sell your digital assets?

    Hi all

These seem to be popping up all over the place. In your opinion, what's the best online marketplace to sell your assets?
Turbosquid seems pretty solid, however their pricing tiers for "certified" models seems a bit high to me.
    3DOcean looks good also.
On the other hand, the other ones have very low pricing tiers which borders on the "amateur" model collection.

    What's your take on this?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I have uploaded 1 model to Turbosquid just to see how well it would go and to investigate if it could be a source of extra income to me. I am torn with the Checkmate certification process, I think it does offer value to the buyer because most of the criteria is fairly good. The problem is that you spend a bunch of time getting all the stuff ready; rendering all your images, turntable, wireframes, etc. and uploading it. Then they take forever to check the model and tell you there is one small error and you will need to fix it. Well you fix it but then some of your images need to be updated, it is a vicious cycle.

I have been on there for 4 months or so and I have sold one copy of the sofa I uploaded for $49 so I got $24.50 from the sale because I am a member of the "squidguild" so I get 50%. I think one of the problems with Turbosquid is that their marketplace is so saturated with a bunch of the same stuff I was thinking of making for the purpose of selling. That makes it really hard to set your stuff apart from other artists stuff.

I am interested if anyone has any hot tips on other sites that get good traffic but aren't so saturated. If you can become a top seller on a smaller site that is probably better than what you would do on turbosquid by far because their marketplace is just so full of people who got in early and have a good product to sell. I think I may just quit the squidguild and upload everywhere that pays out decent to up my chances of finding a better alternative for me. Maybe that is 3 different sites, maybe it is 1, I am not sure at this point.

One of the hardest things is pricing you models. Each site seems to have widely different pricing for the same stuff so I don't want to undercut the same thing one place when I could make more off it somewhere else either.

I have a few models up on turbosquid. I saw it posted somewhere else on how to describe the money flow and the statement was " It keeps me in coffee" which I would say is spot on. I don't do the certified thing as I saw no point in it. Turbosquid tells you what people are searching for so you can make models based on that but I haven't bothered. I just put up generic props I needed to build for projects and if something comes of it great. It may seem like it's a saturated market but if you look over the stuff there is a percentage that isn't worth buying (badly built, out of scale, etc.) when it's obvious from the images that are posted you know it's pretty bad. I would say (only going on what I have observed) that high quality models for close up shots are where a person could sell something. Basically, things that are a pain in the ass to model (no wine glasses).

i think there's actually a few gaps in the market @ Turbosquid. I hardly ever find the furniture Im looking for on there. But there are a gazillion models of people and cars etc.
We've got a few models up there, sell a few every month. Same as val2 pretty much, just upload any odd bits and furniture we've had to model for jobs that cant be found elsewhere.

Office furniture, task chairs, soft seating etc.
Designconnected have the 'designer' furniture wrapped up. We buy loads of stuff from there.
            But office type stuff? Nobody

Also, usable clothes, as has been discussed before. for use in wardrobes, or shops etc.
