Sorry, this isn't a fun post about doing slow motion animation.
I have encountered two installations of Max in the past 8 months that, for some reason, have turned unusably slow. Picking an object and waiting for the properties to populate the modify panel, super slow. Clicking a button in the UI, super slow. Closing the render window, super slow. I had this happen to Max 2012 in the spring. Now a colleague seems to have the same problem with his Max 2013. Different projects, different files. File size had no impact.
With my Max 2012 problem I thought it might have been a Windows update, so I rolled back to an earlier restore point. No change. I removed all plugins and scripts from Max. No change. I uninstalled and reinstalled Max. No change. I used the Google and tried a number of Windows registry hacks. No change. I checked, rechecked, scanned and re-re-re-scanned with my AVG antivirus. No critters were found. I also tried other malware software just to make sure.
I had so many deadlines that I eventually reformatted the HD and reinstalled the OS (Win 7) and apps. Then it all worked smooth as butter.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions or required reading?
