  • Multisub map clean up

    Heya

I have a scene with lots of materials around 600 of which only 20 are in use. The problem is that they are in submats and I cant clean it up using material editor. Is there a way to clean up those damn submats?! They are all standard materials as its not vray scene. Just trying to use max to manage the damn thing...

I'm all ears for a solution to this.

One thing I use is a script from scriptspot that will extract elements based on their matID and name them as per the assigned sub-mat. So if you have a single object with 20 subs, they will all get split out and named appropriately. If you do this for all your objects (in chunks to avoid crashes), you could then merge the objects by name and re-assign one of the materials. Would probably not take that long.

There might be a better way to do it.
