  • Max 2015 Scene Explorer - Layer Explorer

Does any one know what these tools are in the new layer manager?

    Highlight Selected Objects' Layers,
    Select Highlighted Objects and Layers,
Add Selected Objects to Highlighted Layer.

I hate the new scene explorer/layer explorer.
Just trying to do a simple thing like add selected objects to a layer is impossible now so you have to use the layers toolbar instead

Ditto!...and I just love how the new undo / redo buttons make absolutely no sense...do we really need another copy right next to the old one?

+1 on hating the new scene manager
although they fixed the speed issues with the new service pack, it still slows down my workflow with all the new unnecessary clicks to get things done.

gaarjhgbl, there's plenty of room in the ui, why couldn't they just leave those buttons as they were?

I just set mine in the ini to use the old one. The very old one, as in the legacy one from max 9
            MUCH faster to do things
            Kind Regards,

Sigh.... this is it right here. I'm doing the same. Been doing the same with max 2010, 11, 12, 13 and 14. And now I read that it's still necessary for 2015... What a mess.

Ok...maybe I'm just blind today, but how the heck do you delete an empty layer?

I figured in out there is a quad menu in the scene explorer.

                      Hello there

Interesting to read a few things about the new layer manager in 3dsmax 2015 ... it seemed a great news when Autodesk announced that, but now, it seems a different story I guess we'll stick to 3dsmax2014 with NLM for a while !

                      Regards.

this is depressing....I just loaded 2015 since I'm teaching it this semester. I briefly looked at the help file and made a half-assed attempt at finding more information about it.....just found this http://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppor...er-button.html

could not get it to work.... they refer to "layer manager" even though it's the "layer explorer" now.....

                          Highlight Selected Objects' Layers,
                          Select Highlighted Objects and Layers,
Add Selected Objects to Highlighted Layer.
Highlight Selected Objects' Layers, - This is a default behavior now. It always does automatically. But, it only highlight, not selecting layer(like Outliner)

Select Highlighted Objects and Layers - Now what you selected in Layer Explorer is selected in the scene, too
If you want to select all objects in a layer, you can use quad > Select Child Nodes.
Or.. you can use my script. "Select Nodes on Selected Layer"
                          http://cganimator.com/cslayerexplorer-extension-v1-0/

Add Selected Objects to Highlighted Layer - Currently you need to select object first > quad menu > ass selection to > pick parent. Then puck a layer to add to.
Or... you can use button in layer toolbar.
Or.. out back old function in the quad menu.
You can find ols "Add Selection to Current Layer" in Layers category,
