  • Good Grief

I bid on a job last week and like usual, I sent a follow up email. The reply was, "to bad, already done and it took three days and cost $250!!!" Now, my quote was a conservative 3x that amount; I guess he showed me . I didn't take the bait, so I just told him that I am glad he got wait he needed, but it is a little disappointing. 3 days worth of work for $250. Unless you lived in your moms basement, who would get out of bed for that? Anyway.... Just a rant.... Back to work.

i could have done it in 4 hours, but I don't like to produce crap. Sometimes I discount my work because the project looks fun and they don't have the money, but I want to do the project. It's about doing great work and trying to get paid for it,

maybe they got it back in 3 days, not that the time spent on it was 3 days... Honestly, I've held stuff that I finished quickly so it doesn't look like it took me no time at all to produce

it was modeling a hotel from PDF's and rendering the exterior. I'm pretty proficient, so I can only imagine it was outsourced to China (no offense). Anyway, I'm over it already.

ah, including modeling, yeah, sounds like either outsourcing or someone with not enough work. Glad you're over it

The sad part is most of the time you can't really argue quality and the client just goes for cheap. We had a lot of discussion over the last month with alot of architecture firms about 3d visualization and real photography. And for the most part they didn't really care about quality because most of the time the buildings are already sold upfront and they just do some photos or cg shots as an alibi because they feel like they have to. So they go with the cheapest offer they find and run with it happily.

Other times we get the argument that they don't want realistic or high details because those renderings already look too finished and they don't want to scare potential buyers who would like to go with a totally different interior design. So they go with bland looking interiors to show the potential. Which to be honest I find the utterly ridiculous. But hey whatever makes the client happy I guess.
                    Cheers,
                    Oliver

I do not agree with your second statement Oliver. We are part of the process on different design stages. At the end we want to show idea, space potential and to be honest I think that it is much harder to be successful in achieving this with "bland" look than doing so called "photo real".
                      Best Regards

                            I think he does.

@ Bobby, I wonder what the result looks like. I'm the lead architectural visualizer at my firm here, but we have a division in Vietnam and even I get outsourced by my own company sometimes, even though they produce overly saturated kitschy crap images. I had to get over it too
