  • Vray Blend Material

    Hello,

I am having a battle with a Vray blend material. I Don't know if I'm applying it correctly, but I'm getting random results when using a mask for a decal on the glass store fronts. some look good, other look fogged and other have the decal map projected on the back or in strange places.

The mask is on map channel 2 and the UVW maps only have the selected faces on map channel 2...just when I redo everything and think its all set the mask shows up screwed up on random test renders.

I would appreciate if anyone can let me know what I'm doing wrong...attached is an example of my glass with decals.

    Thanks!

    Eric

I'm about give up...I think I'm just going to offset another plan in front of the glass. I don't understand why the Vrayblend is having issues.

I hate when things don't work as intended.

I cant check you max file as im on 2014, but I always use vrayblend in the same way as you. I dont bother with different channels, I just have 2 x different uv maps on different selected faces.
Obviously the front face mapped as intended with the design etc.
The other faces I apply a uv map - planar, turn off vertical tiling in the map, set the blend colour to black, and just move the gizmo below the glass. So essentially those faces are mapped with black as they have no map on them.

Hope that makes sense and helps?

Thanks!...I think setting the blend color to black may have fixed the issue, but I'm not sure yet since it was just random.
I did set the uv maps of different faces also used planer and turned the off the vertical tilling map on the mask. I'm not sure what you mean by move the gismo below the glass.

Attached is the scene in 2014 if you care to take a look.

I mean like this. (sorry just swapped the map as I extracted in the wrong place)

So this is the "other" faces. I mapped the dot pattern on the front face as usual, then another edit poly, invert selection and then another uv map, which I then moved the gizmo as shown.

So the selected faces are mapped with black because there is no map on them.

On your max file attached, you've only applied mapping to one face. So the other faces are either getting the blend map or they are getting the blend colour.

            Thanks AlexP!

So I think I am not applying the uv mapping correctly, I did have 2 uv maps stacked with each face selection but I guess I'm doing it wrong.

would you mind uploading you test scene?

            Thanks again!
