I still struggle with creating very realistic, luxury carpet materials in my scene. Rugs I also struggle with, but for the purpose of this thread, I'm looking for suggestions on creating a wall-to-wall carpet (in a bedroom for example). The sort of look I am going for is this:-
Ideally, procedural would be good, as large, non-tiling bitmaps I see as being tricky to acquire, but I am open to suggestions. Would you use bump, vrayfur, displacement? Where a chair leg or a bed leg hits the carpet is another area that gives away a rendering as being unreal, but to begin with, suggestions on creating this sort of look would be appreciated. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with varying a soft reflection over the surface, which is broken up by the pile being pushed around by footprints, vacuum cleaner marks etc.
EDIT: here's another example of the kind of luxurious, deep piled carpet I am aiming for:-
