Are there many Vray users that use this software ? If so would you say it is as functional and can produce high quality results when compared to Nuke ?

Edit: I realise that the results are kind of dictated by the skill of the artist so I guess I'm asking if the same results can be achieved in the same time...rather than having to use work-arounds on one piece of software.

We started using it here for animations a few months ago. We previously used After Effects. Now we are talking now about using it instead of Photoshop for stills, we are in early testing...

I have not really dug into Nuke other than trials. I have used After Effects, Shake and Toxik and I much prefer Fusion for 3D comping. I would recommend just giving it a go and seeing if it works for you. I think they have a free version on their website. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/ca/products/fusion

The only thing I do not like about it is the scattered user base and problems with things like scripting and fuse documentation. So it can be tough Googling for what seems like common issues.

In terms of VRay I had to do some custom stuff to get Normals and Vector passes to work. I am happy to share if anyone needs it.

The folks at Blur have been using Fusion for many years. I used it many years ago back when I was still working at Blur (been using Nuke for 7 years now though). I'm not sure how Fusion has changed over the years, but even back then it worked just fine with Vray. It wasn't as straight forward with multichannel exr's or even with working in full floating point back then. But it was totally possible. I'm sure its only improved over the years. I've had some compositor friends recently tell me they were pretty impressed with Fusion.

Thanks Guys. I've downloaded the demo and will give that a tinker.

Tim, did you find it easy to crossover your experience from Fusion to Nuke ? I'm assuming understanding Fusion helped a bit..

We use it over nuke. it's faster and the general consensus is that it's a little more pleasing to use, it does everything we need with plate cleanup and greenscreen. we use a third party keying plugin though.

Knowing Fusion did help with understanding Nuke. However, I agree with Neilg when he says. "If you know one you know 90% of the other."

I have used Fusion for about 6 years now and I love it for stills and animations.
It is very quick and easy to learn and it is very rock solid.
Now that it is free it is even more appealing! Hopefully the "community" side of it will grow.......

I´m using Fusion for years now and I´m happy with it. It´s one of those few pieces of software that never let me down.
I never used Nuke so I can´t compare. I also use it for still. In my opinion the color correction is much better compared to photoshop.
The basic Version of Fusion is Free now even for commercial use.

Sounds like a bargain Looking forward to spending some time using it. It's good to know about the transfer to Nuke if that day comes.
