  • Weird AutoCAD linking on import

    Hello!

I am having an issue with importing AutoCAD objects into 3DS Max. All imported objects seem to come in linked by instances, when I use the unlink tool it exploded all objects to random places.

Does anyone know how to correct this?

    I would appreciate any advice.

Yes, I have seen this. I think I imported the CAD, export it as an OBJ, and import it again... Something like that. It happens with Revit models, too.

Unfortunately exporting to OBJ removes the CAD layers, makes it a pain when applying materials.

That happens when objects are within blocks in Autocad. You have to explode them in Autocad before importing in Max.

            Derive primitives by:
            LAYER

            Not LAYER, Blocks as NODE

I had this issue just last week. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=1230561

It's due to instanced transform controllers on imported objects that are blocks within AutoCAD; to fix it (thanks to SnipeyX for the script and PixelMonkey for telling me to use the full maxscript Editor)

              1. select the offending objects
              2. open the MaxScript editor and copy-paste and run the following:

              (
for o in selection do o.transform.controller = PRS()
for o in selection do o.parent = undefined
              )
Again, won't work in the listener, use the MaxScript Editor. Thanks to SnipeyX at CGsociety for the script

Thanks Richard! Works like a charm!
