  • GPU Render Farm

I have just recently had a go at rendering using Rebus and am very impressed.
I have also been looking at Vray RT and am looking for links to a GPU render farm for final frame rendering.

I was looking into that last week but couldn't find any, so I'll be more than happy to know about also.

id be surprised if anyone has set up a commercial gpu renderfarm yet. maybe as a side project..

the rate at which those cards will be outdated.. id certainly think twice before buying 50+ !

Yeah, I was thinking about that too...

ahh vlado, if only you could find a way to get around the ram limitations..!

Well, we do have texture paging implemented now; however when it's enabled, the GPU speed drops a bit. It's still quite fast though, and on par with other GPU renderers that do the same sort of thing.

For geometry paging, it's still not a solved problem. The speed drop is very significant and almost takes away any advantages of the GPU.

yes thats what i understood to be the case. in that case we are waiting for either a *much* faster bus and system ram setup, or a mythical gpu with upgradeable ram slots... or some incredible data compression algorithm..
i have a feeling that we are already getting to the point where more ram is giving precious little benefit for games, people scoff at 12gb cards (whats the point right?) on the gaming forums.. so the big ram cards are the sole preserve of the hpc community and are priced as such, negating their cost advantage over the much more flexible cpu and ram combo.

id be happy with a 2 generations old gpu with 24 gb ram. as long as it was only $400

maybe chaos should get into hardware

Good to know as I was looking for GPU farms for ages and finding nothing, guess its just a bit early in the game for GPU render farms.

I am contemplating whether to add GPU capability to my Helmer renderfarm.
I saw this new GTX970 half size cards and if combined with server psu, I can have 10,000 CUDA Cores renderfarm, each node will just have 1 of those gpus so 6 total.
