  • 3Ds Max 2015, 2014, 2013 insane UI lags... is it just me?

I've been running in Maya for a while and once a while I need to come to max to do some things. I have a big annoyance with it as its very slow. Every time I select object and go to edit poly mode ui lags like hell. Its as if he was opening each tab in ui 1 by 1 and refreshing entire UI as he does it. It takes like 10 seconds to open some ui, drives me crazy.

Does any1 else have that? Any solution for that awesomeness of AD?

We had a discussion about this a while back; it tends to happen over time for me as well, the issue seems worse if you have multiple instances of 3ds Max open. I've had cases where opening the material editor would take something like 10 seconds. It looked like cleaning up 3ds Max settings or reinstalling 3ds Max makes it fast, until it slows down after a while again. I'm not sure why this happens...

        Best regards,

I never have anything open but MAX. I have seen people have slow downs when chrome is open, which seems to take more RAM than MAX.

Humh I'll try that. Restart pc and start just max. See if there is some software that cause the issue.

Try msconfig and uncheck everything that launches at startup.

Any mapped network drives? I know max really hates when you have ones that are not connecting.

I have moved to one computer and everything local, which solved a ton of my MAX issues. I purchased a machine with as many cores and ram as I could afford and I am loving it. Obviously, not as fast as 5 i7's, but easier.

3dsmax 2009 - 32bit, everything opens instantly, no flickering, no lag.

                      Max 2011/12/13/14/15

Render scene dialog takes 10 seconds to open
Material editor takes 5 seconds to open
Jumping materials in the CME, is so slow..

So frustrating when max 2009 on my laptop works so smoothly and it only has 3gb of RAM and is 7 years old!

I remember something about the max UI having problems when Windows Aero UI is turned on. Maybe that´s worth a try in case it´s on.

What if you unplug your network cable and try things. Sounds like a network lag to me (from something) are you using maxstart.max file to set options in your max?

The other obvious thing to check would be video card...imo.
