every highend video card I had, starting from geforce 8800 all the way to most recent geforce gtx480 all died in about 5-6 year span just few month after the warranty.

I figured it was just what nvidia puts into them as their lifespan. Its actually quite expensive if you think about it - 800 dollar card every 5 years that's over 100 dollars per year for a video card.

I keep trying to go back to game cards, they just can't deliver for me. I don't really enjoy spending the money on a Quadro card either. I'm hoping the Titan cards are a middle ground, but I haven't found the courage to purchase one yet. Maybe the new Titan Z?
The gtx980 ti might get interesting. Same chip with full features just like the Titan. Even higher clock frequency but only 6gb of ram instead of 12. But, well... half the price.

980's are pretty solid for me.

I'm sticking with 2014 until the next SP comes out for 2016. I didn't even go to 2015 as there was nothing that made me want to update my workstation and render nodes.

It does seem very odd that 2016 was supposed to have improvements to viewport speed but it is worse than the previous version. Do they test on a number of machine specs when they come up with these ridiculous claims ? If it was Pixologic you can nearly guarantee they would deliver on their promises !

            I am loving my 970's.
Good price point and they handle massive scenes with ease.
No more hitting F3 that brings up "realistic" and rage quitting
