  • CPUs on the horizon ?

I'm thinking about upgrading a few of my systems. Does anyone know of the situation with intel CPUs and if there are any new ones coming out this year that will be better than the current i7-4770/i7-4790s ?

    Thanks
    Regards

    Hey Steve,
There are these current 6/8 core i7's which is pretty good.
    i75820 6 core
    i75930 6 core
    i75960 8 core

I recently built 5 i75820 render nodes and they are pretty good.

It looks like there will be some new CPUs later this year.

The 5820 is the best choici if you'd get only 32Gb of ram
if you invest in 64Gb then you'd better go with the 5960

These Skylake-S 8 core 14nm ones sound interesting:

hmmm. I have 3 years old i7-3930k rig and was also thinking about building something new... but looking at the tests there's not much to gain : http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i...-Core-i7-3930K
Basically only saving a bit of power consumption. I would wait for something with much bigger edge probably this Skylake CPUs

I'll probably wait until the brand new cpu's come out and then buy the previous generation. Brand new/just released CPU's are so expensive !

I tried that locally, but at the time, the 3770 was the SAME price as the 4770
