  • bercontiles and multitextures

    hi all

I would like to randomize multitextures with bercontiles but I don't get it to work...
I followed this instructions, (bottom) but it doesn't work. http://www.klaasnienhuis.nl/2012/01/.../#comment-8950
either the tiles (in my case 70x35cm) are ok, or the tilemap (in my case stonetexture), but never both...

    anybody have experience with it?

    need help.

    thanks
    best regards

I know this isn't the answer to your problem but the walls&tiles plugin from Vizpark does all that more or less automatically.

On the other hand if you still want to go that way, you might want to post some images to make yourself a little more clear

yes I know, and I have it. but for me the learning curve to use self made textures is too much at the moment. or do you have a good reference about it?

You mean using your own created multi-textures and use them with the walls&tiles plugin? What are you struggling with?

Make a new bercontile and leave everything default.

Now enter the sizes of your tile (70 X 35)
            Set Softon to None
            Disable Round Corners

In the "None" next to the white swatch stick in a multitexture and select all your bitmaps. In multitexture make sure to tick "Bercontile" in the middle of the interface so that it will randomise over the tiles of bercontile
Now go back to bercontile and scroll down a bit and tick "Enable Tile Mapping"
            thats it

If you have only 1 jpg in your multitexture, you can get variation by adjusting the "random" spinners of the gamma or hue within multitexture
            Kind Regards,
            Morne

              thanks morné
I have tested it but it doesn't work... http://c2n.me/3inXFF4.png
the plane is about 140 x 140 and the tiles are 70 x 35 so I should see them...
but I get one big tile... I think there is an issue with mapping scale, tiling, etc.
I think I need a mapping for bercontile and one for the tilemap. but how?

              thanks for ideas.

              best regards

Since this bercontile is a procedural you don't exactly need UVW mapping. Are your units correct?

I have attached my scene as an example. As well as a screenshot:

This is 3 X jpgs in a multitexture. The small plane is 140 x 140 and the large one is 300 X 300 each with realworld scale mapping (or uvmap and realworld ticked)
                  The tiles are 70 x 35
                  Works fine here

oh I found it out... default blur 1.0 gives this http://c2n.me/3ioWU50.jpg
with blur 0.001 like in your scene it looks like this: http://c2n.me/3ioXlXu.jpg
funny! so maybe I didn't see my textures sharp...

right, now it works also for me, with blur 0.001... http://c2n.me/3ioYykv.jpg
but morné doesn't set it to blur 0.001, so why is it working for him?

                        thanks guys!

Your scene looks fine, indeed the blur needs to be put way down. Morne's blur has been put down too (=0.01)

yes I saw it afterwards... well now it works. don't know why this blur value doesn't work like normal in max.
