  • View CubeVR with Oculus DK2

    Hey guys,
I just saw that on Vray's site for SP2 there are some pretty nice VR shots :

Is this CubicVR render method any better than 360x180 spherical SB stereo pano?

I have some oculus DK2 but not a GearVR, is there any way I can view those files?

I have LiveViewRift and Whirligig as player, should I use another one?

    Thanks
    Stan

The cubic panorama utilizes the image resolution a bit better - there is less pixel distortion, especially around the poles. With the spherical panos, a lot of resolution is wasted at the poles, because a lot of pixels are crammed into a very small viewing area.

As for a DK2 viewer, I will ask what we used here.

    Best regards,

        This one works perfectly

I also tried vr player but it's kind of shit, it judders and has screen tearing if you move too quick.

            Hello,

Virtual Desktop could be used to view stereo cube maps. It comes with an Environment Editor tool that can import cube maps to a virtual desktop "environment".

              Hi,
              This sounds great.
Could you help me and point me out how I can use it?
I can't see where I need to specify the CubicVR images.

I tried again today and couldn't get it to work with the liveviewrift.
Dod you do anything special beside set it to image and point to the jpg or png like any other stereo pano?

                Cheers

Virtual desktop comes with an Environment editor tool. You should use the environment editor to specify a stereoscopic cube map:

You should specify environment name, background image and stereo cube map image:

Name:	env_editor.png
Views:	1
Size:	27.3 KB

The created environment is added and available for use with Virtual Desktop.
If you overwrite an environment in use, it automatically updates the oculus display.

                    Thanks for your reply.
I've been able to use it but I have my desktop screen in the middle when I'm looking at them.
plus it doesn't seem to be as easy as the liveviewrift or Whirligig to view them.

I hope I'll be able to find a alternative solution.

                    Cheers
