  • Vote for UHD/4K Support in 3ds max

    Hi all,

You might have seen this, but if not, please consider voting for UHD/4K support in 3ds max:

    http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com/f...-properly-to-u

Autodesk are WAY behind the times here. Eddie's admission that they haven't even really started research or testing into this is pretty shoddy, so let's give them a prod in the backside to get moving and to deliver support for this in max 2016, not just 2017.

    Cheers,

I'm pretty sure we'll have work to do on V-Ray too if that ever happens

      Best regards,
      Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

No doubt! The difference being that I'm sure you guys would take just a few months on it rather than a few years like AD...! (At least we hope!).

Yeah, once all the interfaces swith to vector based graphics we'll be safe for any monitor resolution... until the day we have 3d interfaces and have to redo everything again

Do not underestimate the magnitude of this undertaking....

There are something like 2000 dialog boxes in 3dsmax I heard! And then there's all the script that just need to 'work', without any updates, and theses were written in maxscript, dotNet or use WPF and in some cases Python. There's a huge amount of scenarios to consider.

All the icons will need vectorising which means redesigning them again as soon of the graphics won't work as vectors. Then you must consider different icons at different sizes need different representations you can't just scale them. And also remember any change to icons etc will have an angry backlash if not done properly so lots of work to do there.

Then there's all the plugins etc... etc... How much will automatically increase in screen size.

I hope doing this they'll fix a bunch of flickering issues with 3dsmax and be able to make it more adaptable and customizable, maybe a tear-off viewport or docking pFlow? We can hope I guess at least....

If you don't MaxScript, then have a look at my blog and learn how easy and powerful it can be.

I certainly don't think it's a simple task, but it's one that should have been started several years ago when the technology was emerging, in order to be ready when it arrived, as it now has. There should have been a simultaneous big push to help plugin devs update and be ready. The trouble is that we're likely going to be stuck with this UI for at least one full version of max now, potentially more, as this has obviously not been on AD's priority list until we started complaining about it in numbers.

If you add up all the uservoice votes on UI related issues you get something like 4000 votes. I'm sure it's on their agenda. As you say more and more 4k screens are rapidly appearing. I've got a 4k Laptop screen and not many apps work that well. I'm using it at full HD most of the time now as it just makes life simpler. I've upgraded to windows 10 to make life better for 4K, but there's apps like Photoshop CS6 which will never work in HiDPI We haven't gone onto subscription for Adobe yet... and it's only a matter of time before we are forced to so we can make use of the screens. Sad really... but that's a different thread.
