Use this script to automatically split your multichannel EXR's into separate nodes...
    http://www.svenneve.com/?p=889

Use this script to change all of the EXR's in your scene as needed....

Cool thanks. On that topic, what type of EXRs does Fusion prefer? Tiled or Scanline?
      Kind Regards,

I haven't tested the 2 but my guess would be tiled.

As you said, you can do commercial work with free Fusion version. That alone makes it very powerful choice. Free version of nuke has some truly ridiculous licensing rules, they had them even more ridiculous on launch, like "not being able to use Nuke free during working hours" - everyone was like "WTF does that even mean?"

Everytime I download Nuke trial version I don't even have time to play with it and I get a phone call from the Foundry to ask about my experience! They are a bit aggressive on the marketing side! I just hang up telling them I'll email them when I want to talk about that!

But one thing I wanted to point out about cheap compositing apllication for freelancer is that Houdini can also be used as a compositor and you can do commercial work (limited to HD) with the 199$ version. I bought it but I haven't try yet the compositing side.

Except a few situation like heavy multi channel workflow or deep compositing, Fusion can do whatever Nuke can do.
It also faster than Nuke in many cases.

I had used Fusion for vfx for more than 8 years.
I have done shot for TV, feature film, commercial with Fusion.
It is more than enough prodiction proven software.
