You can do this with any midi controller that already exists, i have an old small drum pad midi controller set up with each pad assigned to a different keyboard shortcut. It works anywhere because it just remaps the button presses to ctrl-s etc.

The way they connect together is pretty snazzy... I'd have fun just playing around with that and seeing it update on the screen. As for midi controllers, I once tied my midi keyboard to the keys of a piano in 3ds Max and could "play" them in realtime.

I think it looks pretty cool but I do a ton of photos and video so I think it would be pretty sweet for that. But on the other hand it is to pricey at the moment... $660CDN for the "Professional" kit is a little steep
