  • Poof, gone!

I am going to go postal on MAX. Now, when I select an object to edit, it disappears. However, if I zoom way out, I can see it again. This happens in shaded mode. This started happening when I increased MAX's bitmap resolution so I could model over an image. I have since changed it back, however, the problem is still there. I rebooted both MAX and my computer, but it didn't help. Has anybody experienced this before. If so, what was the fix. Thanks.

no fix, it happens to me sometimes too.. change either the nitrous directx version, or go back to direct3d.. basically, change the display driver.

Is the view moving far away from the object? My colleague was having the same issue and we tracked it down to the view cube, fiddled with settings related to it for a while and eventually disabled it. It doesn't do it anymore, but we are not sure which setting exactly was the culprit.

Oddly enough, I believe his was disabled also when the issue started. I just compared settings between his Max and mine and the only difference is under 'SteeringWheels', his Orbit Tool settings are both turned off and mine are both on. I have not yet encountered the issue on my workstation so I have left all of the settings at default.

            Try turning these off:

I've found it to be an issue with units and how big (area-wise) the scene is. If I remember correctly, I think I solved it in one sprawling scene by merging it all into a blank scene that had system units set to meters instead of centimeters.

I will try that the next time I can.
