XP and max Memory problem ---Help!!

Hey guys, I have recently upgrade to xp pro and now my max is using 450mb of memory! I have 2 gig of ram but max is seriously killing me!

I have checked for viruses malware etc and my computer is clean.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing this?

max will use as much or as little memory as it needs. if you want it to use all your ram (and then crash out because windows cant alocate more than 2gb to one app, and often crashes at around 1.4gb) just toss 8 or 9 million non-instanced polygons into the scene.

why you would "want" to run out of memory and have the data page to the hard drive and slow your system to a crawl is beyond me.

Right now with all the various programs an Max I'm idleing at 573 megs Max itself is using 280 megs of that with an empty scene.

never was good at that reading thing.
when i open max i usually have about 200mb total being used, including the os's memory. 450 for max alone on an empty scene is bad. maybe there is a plugin you are using with a memory leak.

well i have fixed the problem.

The answer to my problem isnt the best, but I reinstalled xp and the problem has gone away.........for now.
