port your 3dsmax toolbars (and scripts) from a version to another one

Hi 3dsmax users,
as subject...when you switch from a version to another one (in detail...now I'm switching to max2012 to max 2016) do you know a way to save your toolbars (and scripts) and port in the new 3dsmax?

What do you suggest?

Not that I'm aware of, I just set them up by hand with each new release.

I'd be interested to hear if someone has another way to do this.

And if you save out the cuix files, when you import those files, is it additive, meaning it will NOT overwrite what's there? I've done several loading of different versions of UI and I tend to loose functionality that is only found in the menus...so I've been scared to try anything else.

I wouldn't be scared. You can always load the default back. Just make sure not to overwrite it

A migration tool is so sorely needed...

It's really easy. Customize Menu >> Customize User Interface... then in each tab save out the customization file. I think some of the tabs share a file but I can never remember which ones so I just save them all.

Then for your macroscripts go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\20 XX - 64bit\ENU\usermacros\ and copy the ones you want and paste into the version you're moving to.

Thank you Daniel but it seems there is some core changes from max 2012 to max 2016 that prevent to import the old configuration files.

I've tried also to change the file extension but 3dsmax2016 is too much clever and it understood I'm sly and it refused to help me...giving me a "file invalid" and other similar errors

I'm quite sure that I'll have to make it manually...

And you still have to reinstall all your old scripts/macroscripts, right?

As far I know, yes, you still have to reinstall all of the scripts you use.

After taking my Max 2014 UI and putting it into Max 2016, I'm missing some 2016 specific menus...so I had to revert back to the original 2016 enhanced menus and rebuilt the UI from there...didn't take too long, but still annoying.

This is exactly why I haven't upgraded to 2016 yet. I haven't heard of anything I need in 2016 and I don't want to lose me tools.
