Actually the majority of my work over the last month or so just does not like the new simplified way. Did one yesterday at about 2K and with threshold of 0.02 I was getting 6 hour render. After doing things manually the "old" way, with 0.01 I was getting a MUCH cleaner image in HALF the time. (0.01 with the new way just sky rockets the render times and it's still noisy)

It seems very scene specific however since the work I did in the previous month was loving the new simplified way
    Kind Regards,

I am pretty sure vlado would be very interested in the scene that works better with the old way.

Personally, if I convert a scene mid-stream, the new render times were horrendous. However, starting a scene fresh rocks with the new normal. I am not sure what would cause this, but I am glad I am working on all new projects.

Yes he has mentioned this to me also and I'm hoping to arrange something afterwards.

Strange that you are finding it like that. There shouldnt be a difference if you start fresh or convert a scene midway or even at the end. Maybe there is something wonky in the code there when "resetting" everything to default

You have to reset completely, (swap to default scanline and back)

              I swap using this
              Code:
              renderers.current=vray()

This code only assign as current renderer engine V-Ray. Simply assign via Render Setup dialog Scanline then back to V-Ray.

                P. S. The code drops parameters, but I am not sure that it is enough.

Try the code yourself. It does reset the render settings to default

Yeah that was the first thing that stroke my mind when i tried new 3.3
Must have felt aweful but at least people understood how sampling works
Can you imagine if you made mastering vray now what woudl be the content?

Tried the latest Solidrocks and the latest VRay and the render times went down 60%, eg. a 5 hr render went down to 1.5 hours at far higher settings, so not sure if its VRay or Solidrocks or both, tried it on a few more projects and all the same result, a vast reduction in rendertimes.
Mayeb I have been doing it worng for the last 10 years ?
But I like the fact I can just slide to a setting and get the results I want.

Really, Vray now is SO SIMPLE to optimize, you just have to play around with 2-3 settings at most and you're done, even for animation. Last time i used solidrocks was 3 years ago, then it was useful, back in IR/LC days, but now?? Can't get much simpler than it is now.

That's the beauty of this industry, but fortunately there is still plenty more work to be done and advocate for moving forward in terms of our creative control, material features and effects, the GOOD stuff we should actually be worried about.
Just as a musician doesn't play better by understanding how the instrument was made, neither do artists do better work by understanding the math.

Interesting... I have an interior that I woke up too only being 1/2 done and 12 hours to go. I raised some settings and lowered the resolution, just to make the proof deadline, and it looked awful. I decided that I would rather be late than show something bad, so I decided to try SolidRocks. With the original full resolution and 'Very Good' settings, it looks beautiful and it took about 2 hours.
