  • Fume FX experts advice needed :)

    Hi guys,

we have a very troublesome project were using FumeFX for.

The effect were trying to achieve can be seen here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wftv2ncuYhM
    time 0:38 - 0:42

its the subtle hazy like smoke.

We really have hard time setting this up in Fume.
As if this wasnt enough, we have to guide this smoke through a invisible spiral pipe to prevent it going anywhere else.
This pipe will be a spiral going accross the screen and the smoke is going to have start and end while traveling along this spiral tube.

Aynbody with decent Fume experience that could point us to the right direction with the settings?
We tried so many approaches, even ones using max particle system and Fume together, but nothing looks close to the example video.

Were also trying to play with vray enviroment fog but i have no clue how we woudl animate that going through a spiral invisible tube:-/

Thank you very much in advance for your advice.

    Best Regards

    Martin

yes we have but the problem is that the help from Afterworks is almost none existent so we dont know how to setup a peaceful slow misty effect rather than buoyant heavy smoke you see

looks really nice luke thanks for that!
we have quite complicated spline to follow in 3D..any idea how its possible to bring it to AE?
We tried FBX to AE plugin to bring camera and spline into AE but its not working unfortunatelly :-/

sorry I just recenlty saw this plugin and heaven't tested it. But I saw on this tutorial that it's following spline. So maybe you will have to draw it manually in AE, maybe it's worth it. Did you try asking on videocopilot forum maybe there is a way to import spline.

Have you tried speed by icon on a spline in pflow? you can probably emit fluid from those particles that will follow.

Why are you using fume anyway? I think phoenix can do follow by spline.

                  hi guys,
we used Phoenix for this too and it did not do the trick, i ve even talked to Ivaylo about this and its a very tricky stuff on such a long distance that we need to cover in one shot.
we made the smoke to follow a spline but the client wasnt happy about it because it was "too smoky" - crazy client btw...
They want EXACTLY what they saw in that video and cant live without it :-/ So more misty like stuff, but while following spline while travelling at quite big speed - which blurs out any smoke effect - but thats another story - the client dowsnt understand that - horrible!!!!...enough ranting

                  Lukx,
                  thanks for that!
                  we tried using this:
                  http://www.timecore.org/fbx-to-ae/
but somehow the newest iteration of CC has problems working with it, we cant get to export a single sphere with it...unsure whats wrong.

Were now trying the vray environment fog encapsulated within tube object which follows a spline while animating the fogs noise...it kind of does the trick i will post a sample soon.

I have to say i ve received some very terrible support from Aftereffects.
Ive never ever had worse support from a software creator.
The tuts we have seen down show how to create such effect so we contacted them and kindly asked for help, if they could point us to the right direction in terms of what settings we should be tweaking (and there is loads of them) - the reply was "sorry but we cant"....sorry for more rant but i had to let it out )

This only makes the vray support were gettgin here stand out so much and i am greatful for this - thanks Vlado and the team!

                  So were
