  • Using Idle Cores

Hi, I wasn't able to find exactly what I was after, hope this hasn't been asked numerous times before.

A colleague of mine mentioned in his old firm they were able to utilise a piece of a software which scanned the network for idle cores on computers, tap into those resources for a backburner type boost. He can't remember the name of this software, so I'm thinking it could be proprietary. Does anyone know of anything that can actually do this? I'm skeptical based on the fact that idle cores is not just the only factor, Free RAM also being so important as to the stability & speed of a render.

The only thing a google search was able to find was Deadline which I believe is quite popular, but doesn't appear to have magical abilities to sniff out cores across the network.
FYI, I'm looking at a solution of possibly using 20-30 machines here when they're not in use (ie, lunch breaks).

Any ideas or help much appreciated.

You can write scripts for windows that auto start a render manager server after a set time of no input - doesnt usually kick in on lunch breaks, but when people are in long meetings or leave and dont turn their servers on it helps.
