I have been running my ISP virus software, however, I don't even know if it is any good. Does anybody have any good suggestions for virus/spyware software?

There are so many different antivirus manufacturers to choose from, in my opinion they are quite close to each other assuming you have a current subscription. Would definitely try to stay away from the all in one solutions (for example, from Norton/Symantec and McCafee ) they can make even power machines crawl due to their own overhead.
I have had good experience with Eset, Kasperski and business versions of AVG. The best thing would be to look at some recent reviews on Google.
Once you've chosen, do spend the time to create scanning exceptions. Would personally be excluding anything database related and test by excluding Max, plugins and Vray that the real time scanner doesn't interfere when you're working / saving / rendering.
An antivirus program will protect from viruses, but would also get a good antimalware program (you're probably more likely to encounter malware than a virus anyway). Malwarebytes is a good one I have used and has never let me down.

With the searching I did last night, it seems that Bitdefeder is #1 on everyone's list.Bobby Parker

At my work we have Sophos. It's very quiet, never had any problems with it. At home I have AVG free. Probably not the best choice but I don't have any problems with it either, altough I don't know if I'm protected well enough. Don't have any problems so far.

Don't you mean ANTI-virus software We use ESET NOD32 at work; at home I'm just running Windows Defender. However on my father's machine I installed Malwarebytes, as he tends to click on whatever windows pop up in the browser...

Bitdefender did a machine optimizer this morning. It also runs in some mode when you go to s banking website. Also, it does something to folder to prevent ransom ware from locking filed.
