Fine, don't touch the BIOS (why they would tell you that I have no idea). Open up the case and LOOK if there's a second processor and heatsink.

There's probably a tamperproof sticker on the case that says warranty void if seal broken

I would check your receipt and make sure you ordered a dual CPU system. I assume they gave u a configuration quote?

The dell support said their records shows it is a single processor. I said it better not be and I sent them the receipt. He came back, apologized, and said that it is in fact 2 processors. He had me open the case to verify an all is good. Dell said to reset the bios, so I will and I'll see what happens.

The BIOS shows 2 processors. However, the performance tab is showing one. Maybe, it's tomorrow problem.

That's good...It might just be a bios setting that needs to be enabled or reset. when in doubt I load a Linux boot CD and troubleshoot but Dell has great tech support I'm sure there take care of it.

In MSCONFIG I can set the processors from 0 to 36. When I set it to 2, this is what I see, when views as logical. The left one is CPU 0 and the right one is CPU 1. When I set it to show overall, it shows the one graph. Now, if I set the MSCONFIG to 36, I get the 36 graphs when set to logical. Each processor has 18 cores, so that make the 36. If I have multithreading enables, shouldn't I see 72 buckets?

Yeah! 2 processors just renders with 2 buckets. In msconfig I have to have it on 36, I guess.

Run CPU-Z it should tell you exactly what Windows is recognizing.

But I am only seeing 36 buckets. CPU-Z is showing the correct information, too.

If I have not seen your post with cpu-z screen I would say that you have to go to BIOS and enable HT. In many cases it is switched off by default.

It's the environment variable that you need to enable, do a search I remember seing a post with instruction somewhere.
I believe it's somewhat experimental and don't think it fires up all cores when calculating the light catch. Might want to launch DR for better performance. I think that's what vlado suggested a while back

Nice rig! Looks like everything worked out.
