  • Deadline vs. Qube?

    Hi all

    Does anybody have any updated info that compares these 2? Can they be compared?
    (in terms of a renderfarm service to support max, maya and c4d and possibly modo)
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

    Thinkbox's support is pretty amazing, they're all kind of similar really since it's all just command line stuff - you spend most of your time tweaking the configs and paths of programs that the queue developers don't use as much.

      Yeah. Thinkboxes are outstanding. But they have some problems with newer linux kernels. 8.0 is free of it and looks truly superb to anything, I've seen so far. Tho it is beta.
      I just can't seem to trust myself
      So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

        When we switched from Backburner, we did a little study. We ended up with Deadline, and as lots of people will/have mentioned, is really nice. One inconvenient of Cube for us was that the 'manager' was locked on a computer. So, if the manager computer goes down (breaks/hardware failure) in the middle of the day (or the night), you have to request a new authorization to set up the new manager. Deadline, you simply set up the system on an other machine and you are ready to go. (And it does happen, and it is always when the IT guy is not there and that you are in a middle of a huge rush)

        Also, depending on your needs and your budget, there is other solutions you may want to take a look at;
        Royal Render, RenderPal, Smedge, AFanasy...

        But overall, most people will not regret Deadline.
