  • Unlinking objects without destrying the model?

Any animatiors here? I have a minor problem with a rig that i need to get rid off and everything i tried so far ended in a desaster...

So, here is the Model and Rig, its pretty simple, just some meshes linked to dummys and for the pistons some look-at constraints, nothing fancy: http://prntscr.com/amgdoh
If i select everything and press unlink, this happens: http://prntscr.com/amgeys
If i try to unlink the objects one by one (i.e. the cabin that is linked to a dummy to rotate it) they tend to flip and scale: http://prntscr.com/amgfu6
Resetting the XFrom and converting everything into ed. polys and unlinking it then also leads to a destroyed mesh...

Whats going on, can someone help? and is there a script or something to unlink everything but keeping the mesh like it is?

EDIT: Its a 3dsmax2016 issue.... works fine in 3dsmax2015 without killing the mesh. Anyone knows why max2016 does this and is there a workaround?

    It's a bug in 2016 EXT2, get SP3 and you'll be fine.

Possible work around. Select all the geometry, add an editpoly modifier to everything. Element selection mode select all, then detach to new objects. Now you can safely delete everything else including the rig. Your object names might be messed up, but at least everything is in it's correct position.

Thanks guys! I will try the SP3 first and if it stil happens i might try the Short_Fuse method or simply doing it in max2015

SP3 fixed it, thanks again for your help.
The SP3 never sowed up in my Autodesk Application Manager thats why i missed the update, had to download it directly from autodesk...
