Driving me crazy!

These are the things that drive me crazy! I have spent 45 minutes trying to do the simplest of things.

All I want to do is carve a sidewalk out of a flat poly. The last step puts MAX into an unresponsive state that I have waiting for 10 minutes on before I had to kill it.

sometimes one method fails for some unknown reason and you just go to a different method. I would extrude the polys to a closed object and Boolean. You might find that the polys are not closed.
