  • Color Correction map and Render Times?

Is it me or does the use of a lot of Color Correction maps in materials make the render process slow down dramatically? Anyone else ever notice anything similar?

Any "fix" to it? or just plan to make adjustments in post? Then again, I suppose it depends on how much time I have for the renders... Letting them run overnight isn't a big deal I suppose.

Not that I know of. I know the Siger Shaders use ColorCorrection in almost every slot.

In the new version of VMPPmax the Color Correction won't be used almost

The ColorCorrection map should be a lot faster in 3ds Max 2016 (or was it 2015)? Autodesk optimized some things in one of those versions.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

I'm hoping you can NOT use Color Correction at all in the new version

Setup your shaders with color correction and if you are done rightklick on the last node before the material and klick Render Map.
Save it and than convert it in a tiled exr with the Exr conversion tool comming with Vray.
Back in Max, load them with the Vray-HDRI loader.
That will even result in faster renderings than without using the Color Correction but use standart image formats / 3ds max standart Bitmap Loader.

If you use Geometry dependent stuff like distance tex/dirt/curvature you'll have to bake the last node before them.
You could use render to texture instead but it'll need proper mapping.
Thats why I allways try to use Collor Correction and other 3ds max standart maps like composite and stuff only before that kind of map.

Can help alot for animations, but its a bit of an overkill for stills I think.
Unless you have tons of materials and Textures.

It depends. In this context however, I would expect a purchased library to work "correct" out the box and not having to tweak it afterwards.
In reality there will always be some modifications needed somewhere, no matter how good your initial setup is
