  • Video Card Driver Crash

What causes a video card driver to crash? Who is to blame, the video card or 3DS MAX? When the card crashes I get a task bar message saying it has crash and recovered, however, MAX never does.

If my experience is anything to go by, other factors may actually be causing your machine's gpu to crash.

    I'll explain.

I'll admit that this current machine I have has taken me a LONG time to finally iron out all the issues I had with it, and during that time I used to get a lot of GPU instability issues (among other things). I had enough, and decided to spend whatever time was necessary to iron out all of the faults I had. Turned out that when I uninstalled the Asus AI suite (Asus' Windows based OCing software) that all the issues I had with my OC'd machine simply vanished, including GPU failures.

    Who'd have thunk it ?

I know you and I have very different machines (and now I purely OC my machine via the BIOS *only*), but I'm just saying, you may be getting GPU failures, just be aware that it may not actually be the GPU's fault.

PS - in your instance, if you are getting GPU failures within Max, I know what AD would say; "your GPU isn't on our certified list of approved hardware"....... (don't know if it is or not, I'm suspecting it might not be).
