All the xrefing, although might work, seems to be a work around. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for the circle of doom. Picking a random element seems to put the software into a tailspin, for no apparent reason.

Sometimes running the garbage collection command in the listener window helps too "gc()"

Unfortunately in my case proxies I dont think will work for me as I have far too many moving parts in my scenes for example building an entire oil drilling rig site and animating the entire operation on the surface and below as well...

I have tried the garbage collection script, but it doesn't seem to help.

It is a Windows 10 thing that manages apps, however, there is a serious memory leak. I have dialog boxes not closing and killing the Runtimebroker solves that.

I was reading posts, waiitng for MAX to wake up from canceling a render, which take forever with displacent. I responded about the runtimebroker, so I killed it to see if MAX would wake up, and it did immediately. Usually, I give up waiting and kill MAX.

I've found with ProOptimizer that if it's in the wrong order with UVW Map in the stack, that it will do funny things with the material.

Do you find that optimizing everything into 20-50 objects cuts down on render times?

Or MAX Button > Properties > Summary Info. I just tested this. Max doesnt count groups as objects, but the things that are inside groups apparently too.

LOL here is my current scene, Im not sure how much more I can collapse, if I hadn't attached hundreds of objects to this point then the object count would be 15,000+ Going to dig deeper in to it today and see what I can optimize further as its not to bad at home but at my office at a file size of 2.3GB now and climbing its crippling my workstation thanks to all the other crap running in the background that IT has installed to subdue their paranoia.

2.3 GB what the hell. I've dealt with some huge models but they never exceeded 500MB and that was before I started using Xrefs/objects.
