  • Tips for increasing speed of Max2016 SP3 update?

I have 10+ machines to install SP3 on for Max2016. I have started on one of them, and so far, I have been waiting for 24 minutes and it is about 60% through 'gathering required information'.

Any tips to make the install quicker?
    Kind Regards,

    Hello,

this endless install can be solved using a command line, I'm sure of it. After some googling I found back that command line on autodesk forums :

    "msiexec /update "3dsMax2013_PU05_Win_64-bit.msp" /quiet"

I remember I used it and it was much faster. Maybe try it on one machine replace the filename with the 2016 sp filename you have to install

    Hope this helps

Yes it's right there on Autodesk's site where you download the SP from. Just read the readme
        Scroll down to "install"

Yes, it'll install in a few minutes using the command line, which is weird.

Pretty sure I tried this on one of our machines and it didn't seem to do anything.

Nevermind, I manually did them all in the end!

That is correct, the command line described there is SILENT, in other words you won't get any visual feedback as to what is happening. Manually open and close that log text file that it writes to. If nothing more gets added, its done. Been using this for a few years now ever since Daniel Santana 1st introduced that trick to me.

For me it takes max maybe 3 or 4 minutes on the slowest machine...

Using AD's download manager also installs things a lot faster.
