  • Layer Nothing!

Okay, I feel like a ghost hunter. Here is an eagle I just imported and it is on layer nothing! Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on?

When I right mouse click it says layer 0 (default), but it isn't in layer 0. When I have the explorer open, click the bird, no layer highlights.

I'll have to check this once my machine is free. Hopefully, I am missing something easy, like you guys are saying.

I've had objects that didn't seem to belong to any layer.... While the were selected I assigned them to a layer and that seemed to solve the problem.

It usually happens to me with the older Evermotion stuff.

Okay, I see it when I go to "sort by hierarchy" but when I go back to "sort by layer' nothing changes and I can't move it because I can't see it.

Okay, I think I got it to work. It's still broken and this is a workaround, but it does work. I went to "sort by hierarchy", right mouse clicked and picked new layer, then went back to the "sort by layer".

                    Hi,

I had the same problem today.
The only way to recover your layers is to save tour file as 3dsmax2014 files (old layer manager) and to re-open it (in 2014 or 2016).
Like that your layers went back( except the nested ones)

                    Hope it could help you.

It's on layer 0 (default) here so don't see the issue. Another thing. Do you import all the stuff you're using in your models? Why not use Xref Objects? Makes your scenes way lighter and faster to save.
                      A.

sort by hierarchy works for me. I select the item and while selected, I right mouse click to move, and switch back to layer.

I should get in that habit, I suppose.

To be honest I just started doing this 3 projects ago and I'm a happy worker again, no more frustrations. It's quite handy and in combination with forest pack you can use edge mode (proxies don't work with edge mode).
