  • Unwrap UVW - please help a novice (3ds max 2017) :)

When I drop an Unwrap UVW onto a cylindrical object, and the map is NOT a square, opening the UV Editor shows that that the Cylinder has been stretched to fit the non-square bitmap.

How can I stop that from happening (what button etc do I need to press) ?

    Many thanks.
    Jez

      Go Unwrap Options dialog.
Options menu > Preference or Button next to texture list.

Turn on Use Custom Bitmap Size.

Autodesk have raised this as a Support Case - Turning on "Custom Bitmap Size" still leaves geometry squashed....

i think its usually like this, usually for an object as this you would use cyclindrical mapping for the main body then the tops you use plane mapping so you will need to change the mapping twice and then after you will need to relax and pack the map how you want or use the automatic option, really simple
